Bethel was a place frequently mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. At first, it was penned in Genesis that Bethel was situated near the place where Abram put up his camp, but in the future, it came to be known as the place where Jacob had a dream of God and angels, and therefore he named it “Bethel” meaning “abode of God.” Here are a few Bible verses about Bethel.

The allocation for Joseph commenced at the place of Jordan, on the east of the springs of Jericho, and from there it proceeded through the desert into the nation of hills, Bethel. 

Judges 20:18

“The Israelites went up to Bethel and inquired of God. They said, “Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” The LORD replied, “Judah shall go first.”

The Israelites made their way towards Bethel and asked questions to the Lord, the almighty Heavenly Father. They questioned the Lord, who among them would have to take the first initiative to battle against the Benjamites. The Almighty Supreme Being responded that Judah was chosen to go first.

“From year to year he went on a circuit from Bethel to Gilgal to Mizpah, judging Israel in all those places.”

Each and every year, he made a tour from Bethel to Gilgal first and then to Mizpah, forming an opinion of Israel in all those sites.

Samuel 13:2

Hosea 10:15

“So will it happen to you, Bethel, because your wickedness is great. When that day dawns, the king of Israel will be completely destroyed.”

Therefore, do you think that it will come upon you, Bethel, as your sins and iniquities are quite significant. When such a morning begins to emerge, it would be the complete end of the monarch of Israel.

Judges 20:31

“The Benjamites came out to meet them and were drawn away from the city. They began to inflict casualties on the Israelites as before, so that about thirty of them fell in the open field and on the roads – the one leading to Bethel and the other to Gibeah.”

And each and every person of Israel asked questions to the good God, the almighty Heavenly Father. In those times, the holy ark of the contract of the almighty Heavenly Father was present there, with Phinehas, a descendant of Eleazar, who was the descendant of Aaron, tending in front of it. They asked the Lord whether they should once more make their way to battle against the Benjamites, their companion Israelites, or not. The good God, the Supreme Being, replied to them that they could proceed; on the next day, he would hand them over to those Israelites. 

Zechariah 7:2

“The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melek, together with their men, to entreat the LORD.”

All the inhabitants of Bethel had addressed Sharezer and Regem-Melek, hand in hand with their people, to request to the almighty Heavenly Father, the Supreme Being of all the universe.

Genesis 35:8

“Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak below Bethel. So it was named Allon Bakuth.”

And at that moment, Deborah, the attendant of Rebekah, had perished, and her body was buried beneath the oak tree located on the outskirts of Bethel. Therefore it was given the name of Allon Bakuth. 

Hosea 12:4

“He struggled with the angel and overcame him; he wept and begged for his favor. He found him at Bethel and talked with him there.”

Hosea 12:5

“The LORD God Almighty, the LORD is his name!”

He fought with the angel and then defeated him; he shed tears and pleaded for his kindness. He came across him at Bethel and had a word with him at that place – he is known as the Lord, the good God, the almighty Heavenly Father, and the Supreme Being of all creations. 

Kings 17:28-29

And therefore among all the clergymen, one of them who had been banished from the lands of Samaria, turned up to reside in Bethel and educated the inhabitants about the ways in which they could glorify and pray to the holy Lord, the almighty Heavenly Father. In spite of that, all the general groups created their personal gods in the number of cities that they inhabited and established them in the temples and holy places that the townspeople of Samaria had constructed at the lofty places. 

Genesis 13:3

“From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier.”

Genesis 13:4

“And where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the LORD.”

From the Negev, he made his way from one place to another till the time he arrived at Bethel, to the spot in the middle of Bethel and Ai where his camp had been set up previously and where he had earlier constructed an altar. It is at this place that Abram called out the name of the holy Lord, the almighty Heavenly Father, and prayed to him. 

Judges 1:23

“When they sent men to spy out Bethel.”

When they had dispatched people to keep an eye on Bethel, which was previously known as Luz. 

Amos 5:5

“Do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into exile, and Bethel will be reduced to nothing.”

You need not go after Bethel, you need not make your way to Gilgal, you need not travel to Beersheba. And this is because Gilgal will definitely go into banishment, and Bethel will be destroyed into ashes.
