Asaph is recognized with the twelve psalms. Asaph is known to be Berechiah’s descendant, and Berechiah happens to be the forefather of the Asaphites. In the First Temple, The Asaphites were one among the associations of performers.
This information can be verified from The Book of Chronicles.
In this volume, Asaph is known to exist as the son of Gershon, who in turn is the son of Levi. Levi is known to be a follower of the Levites. It is said that Asaph performed at the diligence and enthusiasm of Solomon’s temple.

Kings-1 18:18
When the King was called, Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, came out to them. It was over the household. There were Shebna, the scribe, and Joah, Asaph’s son, the recorder.
Kings-2 18:37
Eliakim, the descendant of Hilkiah, had arrived at that time when Hilkiah was over the household. The clerk, known as Shebna and Joah, the descendant of Asaph, the recorder, all arrived at the doors of Hezekiah with their rented garments and conveyed to him what Rabshakeh had said.
Chronicles-1 6:39
His brother Asaph chose to stand on his right palm. He was Asaph, the descendant of Berechiah, who was the descendant of Shimea.
Chronicles-19:15
“When the Ammonites realized that the Arameans were fleeing, they too fled before his brother Abishai and went inside the city. So Joab went back to Jerusalem.”

Chronicles-1 15:17

David transported this psalm right in the beginning on that day to express his gratitude towards the Lord to Asaph in his palms and his comrades.

He departed from that place before the ark of the treaty of the Almighty Asaph and his brothers so as to master before the ark continuously as a job of each day.
Chronicles-1 25:1
David and the captain of the hosts dedicated themselves to the service of Asaph’s sons. They would prophesy with harps and psalteries, and cymbals. There should be men according to the service.
Chronicles-1 25:2
The sons of Asaph who were under his hands, including Zaccur, Joseph, and Nethaniah, prophesized according to the order of the King.
Chronicles-1 25:6
All these were under the control of their father. It was for the song in the residence of the Lord, which was decorated with psalteries, cymbals, and harps. They were all for the service of God’s house, and it was as per the King’s order to Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun.
Chronicles-1 25:9
The first lot came forward for Asaph to Joseph. The next was to Gedaliah. Gedaliah, along with his descendants and they were twelve in quantity.
Chronicles-1 26:1
Meshelemiah, the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph, was concerned about the division of the porters.
Chronicles-25:12
“The fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and relatives, 12.”
The Levites were the singers. All of them, Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, with their sons and brethren, arrayed in white linen, possessing cymbals and psalteries, stood at the eastern side of the altar. A total of a hundred and twenty priests played the trumpets with them.
Chronicles-20:14
The spirit of the Almighty then arrived amidst the congregation. There were present Jahaziel, the descendant of Zechariah, the descendant of Benaiah, the descendant of Jeiel, the descendant of Mattaniah, a Levite of the descendants of Asaph.
Chronicles-2 29:13
Zechariah and Mattaniah were the sons of Asaph. Shimri and Jeiel were the descendants of Elizaphan.

The Levites were instructed by Hezekiah, the King, and the princes to sing a song in praise of the Lord who had words of David and of Asaph, the seer. They sang so with utmost happiness. They worshipped them as their heads were down.
Chronicles-2 35:15
The descendants of Asaph, who were the musicians, were in their positions as ordered by David, Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, the King’s seer. The porters were made to wait at every gate. They were told not to depart as their brethren, the Levites were preparing for them.

Ezra 2:41
“The musicians: the descendants of Asaph, 128.”
The sons of Asaph, the singers, were a total hundred and twenty-eight in number.
Ezra 3:10
“When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the LORD, as prescribed by David king of Israel.”
When the builders completed laying the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel in the trumpets. The Levites, the descendants of Asaph, were set with cymbals. All of these were done to offer appreciation to the Almighty, following the command of the King of Israel, David.
Nehemiah 2:8
“And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.”
I wrote a letter to Asaph, the keeper of the forest of the King asking him to grant me permission to use timber from the forest to make beams for the gates of the palace which were related to the house, for the wall of the city and also the house that I would enter into. Thankfully, I was granted permission by the King.
Nehemiah 7:44
“The musicians: the descendants of Asaph, 148.”
The musicians, the descendants of Asaph, were a hundred and forty-eight men in total.
Nehemiah 11:17
“Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the director who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.”
The head to start the thanksgiving in prayer were the son of Zabdi, Mattaniah the descendant of Micha, the son of Asaph. Next in line were Bakbukiah, the second amidst his brothers, and Abda, the descendant of Shammua, Galal, and Jeduthun.
Nehemiah 11:22
“The chief officer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mika. Uzzi was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the musicians responsible for the service of the house of God.”
Uzzi, the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha, was the overseer of the Levites at Jerusalem. The singers, the sons Asaph looked after the business of the house.
Nehemiah 12:35
“As well as some priests with trumpets, and also Zechariah son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micaiah, the son of Zakkur, the son of Asaph.”
The descendants of the pastors with trumpets were Zechariah, the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph.
Nehemiah 12:46
“For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the musicians and for the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.”
In the olden times of David and Asaph, there were songs dedicated to eulogizing the Lord. There were also the lead musicians.
Psalms 50:1
“A psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.”
The Supreme Being and the powerful God had summoned the Earth from ascending of the sun.
Isaiah 36:22
“Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn, and told him what the field commander had said.”
Eliakim, the descendant of Hilkiah, the palace minister, Shebna, the secretary and the son of Asaph the recorder, Joah went to Hezekiah wearing torn clothes and told them what their instructor had said.
Isaiah 36:3
“Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went out to him.”
Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, the castle’s minister, Shebna, the assistant, and the descendants of Asaph the recorder, Joah, went out to him.
1 Chronicles-29:30
“Together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.”
There were all the characteristics of his government and the mastery he possessed that encompassed him, Israel, and the rest of the neighboring lands’ kingdoms.
1 Chronicles-5:12
“Joel was the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat, in Bashan.”
Joel was the chief. Shapnam was the second in command. Then there were Janai and Shapat in Bashan.
Psalms 73:1
“A psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.”
A Psalm belongs to the Asaph. In an honest opinion, the Almighty has been just and righteous to Israel and its people, to all the people who possess a pure and honorable soul and mind.
Psalms 74:1
“A maskil of Asaph. O God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?”
Maschil of Asaph. Oh Heavenly Father, why did you drive us away for all eternity? Why is the smoke of your rage clogging your grazing land?

Psalms 75:1
“For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” A psalm of Asaph. A song. We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.”
This is to the dominant singer, Altaschith, a Psalm or music of Asaph. It is to you, O Lord, it is to you that we offer our sincere gratitude; we give thanks to you, for your name is well known for the inspirational and delightful works you have done for the mere mortals. We proclaim your name out loud on Thanksgiving.
Psalms 77:1
“For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.”
This is to the lead musician, to Jeduthun, a Psalm of Asaph. I cried to the Almighty, and he listened to me; he listened to my cries and my calls for help, just how he pays attention to all my prayers.
Psalms 78:1
“A maskil of Asaph. My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.”
Maschil of Asaph. Listen to what I have to say, O my people, pay attention to my words; be favorably disposed to the words that come out of my mouth.
Psalms 79:1
“A psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.”
A Psalm of Asaph. O Heavenly Father, look closely at how evil has spread, for pagans have entered your sacred circle, marring and corrupting your holy palace. Jerusalem is going through so much, and they are responsible for all the negativities happening all around.
Psalms 80:1
“For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” Of Asaph. A psalm. Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth.”
This is to the lead musician upon Shoshannimeduth, a Psalm of Asaph. Listen closely, pay attention, O Shepherd of Israel, he who guided Joseph, like he shows the path to his herd of sheep; he who lived among the heavenly cherubim glimmered into eternity this time onwards.
Psalms 81:1
“For the director of music. According to gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!”
This is to the lead musician upon Gittith, a Psalm of Asaph. Sing out loud to the Almighty, who is the source of all our strength and faith. Sing with a rapturous voice; make a merry noise to the God of Jacob.
